A week in Suffolk...

We spent the last week at Westleton, Suffolk, where, of course, I did some moth trapping on suitable nights. I was hoping to get a Lime Hawkmoth, but didn't have any luck, still, its something to target next time...

Over the week there were 10 new species for me, not particularly rare ones, but moths that occur a good way south of home. Not having any idea of what I could get there, all of them were great surprises...
Pick of the bunch must be Chocolate Tip, Great Prominent and V-pug, all fantastic looking things...

Any way, here they are, more on the trip to follow...

Great stuff Stewart! I love the whole area around Westleton and Eastbridge. I have many fond memories of days spent at Minsmere. Never seen a Great Prominent- you must have been in some mature woodland?

A nice selection there Stewart, although Suffolk seems to be terribly north from here...

Great selection of moths Stewart - glad you managed to pick up some new "Southern" species :)

Matt - The cottage was on the very edge of Westleton common at the start of Minsmere Rd. Some oaks nearby but an open aspect.

Steve - Oh yes, I forget, you are nearer France than northern England ... :) Did I tell you I have been to London once...

Caroline - Yes I like to take the trap down to Suffolk, I'm guaranteed new stuff...

Nice set of moths. I am envious of Maiden's Blush, Chocolate Tip and Chamomile Shark.

Very impressive must have taken your piece of slate with you!

Nigel - Yes! I took my slate, its only 4 inches square about the size of a beer mat, it slips into the pot box nicely ;)
