Last moth...

The last moth of the year I expect. A male Winter Moth. Lately I've been seeing up to half a dozen in the car headlights near home, but this one came into the kitchen. I'm looking forward to keeping my first proper moth garden yearlist...

I'll be keeping an eye on your moth year list with interest Stewart.

Cheers Steve, there'll be a few lifers in that list methinks, a few more than the birding ;)

It'll be interesting to see what differences there are in first appearances and peak counts of common moths between you up there, me in the middle and Steve down south. Supposedly spring comes earlier further south, autumn comes earlier further north - do the Quakers and Sallows know this?

I've pondered this too Mark so yes it will be good to compare.

Stewart and Skev,

I'm just in the process of purchasing a decent trap. Going for an actinic for safety and power saving reasons on a Robinson, but would i catch more with an MV? I've been using a blended bulb successfully on and off, without a trap, in the past with some success. I too would be really interested in variety of species and timings and being further north still, Orkney, would add to your north/south spread. I'm posting what I see and catch on my blog. Currently also seeing Winter Moth, up to 10 around this window in the last week or so.
