Feed the Bir..iiiirds.....

...let them know it's Christmas time...

Poor gag, I know...

I seem to have developed a chest cold over the past couple of days so today was mostly spent indoors feeling quite rough. The birds coming to my feeders outside the living room window always cheer things up though. Today there were 11 Tree Sparrows and 13 Goldfinches along with 25+ Chaffinches, 30 House Sparrows and odds and ends of various other species. I'm hoping that the Tree Sparrows take up summer residence too in my nest boxes.

My only venture out was a walk in the Village Wood with Bunty where 1 Red Squirrel and 3 Roe Deer where the only things of note.

Last night coming home from Alnwick, near the River Aln on the road to Denwick, a flattened creature had me puzzled. Cat was the first guess, then, no its just a cock Pheasant ( well it was pretty flat). Today I see that the unfortunate victim is an Otter, with tail still in tact. What a shame....

I have just bought a house in Amble and am looking for some help in finding my way around. Any chance of meeting up some time in the New Year.

Dave - Email me on stewchat(at)btinternet.com I'm sure we can sort something out...

Alan - Get more seed out, where there's one Tree Spug there's a colony....

The goldies have certainly arranged themselves quite artistically in the first photo.

last weekend I put some Robin mix on the bird table along with some apple and suet mix, total birds spotted so far 1 Robin and 1 black bird. hmmm not to good but at least the two of them are well fed. The hanging nuts and bird seed feeder isn't seeing much action either.

Shame indeed about that Otter Stewart.

You're right about the garden birds cheering things up when you're feeling a bit rough! Watch out for that chest cold, thats how I started 5 days ago, I still feel shite!

spuggies here only.
passed the 'lump' at Denwick today.
Had me wondering, shame it was an otter.
we could lose the odd pheasant.

Just a single, solitary, lonely House Sparrow would be a real boon here in the base camp garden!

Cheers

Wilma - There is no photoshop involvement, honest.
Michelle - Try the hanging stuff near a tree or two, preferably corridor to elsewhere if possible. Birds like a way in and out that makes them feel safe.
Warren - No better today but have been to work. I'm countingthe days until this goes...
Steve - I thought you would pass that way...
LL - I'll point some your way...

I think I'm going to have to add a tray under my Niger feeder because most of it ends up on the ground and nothing else seems to eat it.

Richard - A few things have a peck at the niger but only Goldfinches and Tree Sparrows get stuck in. The catch tray is a must. Wind and bird movement will shake the seed out other wise...
