On the way home from work at dusk this evening, it was fine and very mild. A Woodcock flew over the road just north of the entrance to East Chevington Pools. It flickered along near the car for a second before crossing over ( the road that is, I didnt hit it...)

Twice this week on the way to work I have seen Roe Deer in the fields, 1 near where the Woodcock flew over and two this morning just north of Warkworth.

I've occasionally had Roe Deer in the field to the East of Warkworth below the farm on the rise, visible from the approach alongside the Coquet. Last time was about two weeks ago.

No need for a dog Chris, just a good yomp through a woodland understorey where there are some damp areas underfoot and you should be lucky. Try Bothal Woods or even those wooded areas on the banks near Castle Island. You might get a patch tick!

Once saw a Woodcock flying down Plessey Road in Blyth while filling the car with petrol.........that was different.

The woodland areas around Morpeth are good for roding Woodcock at dusk.....
