On my way to work this morning this fantastic view inspired me to get a snap. Poppies and Ox-eye Daisies looking towards Hipsburn. Its worth double clicking to see the bigger picture. Its like one of those Tunnicliffe scenes from those old Ladybird books 'What to look for in Summer.' Tremendous.

First of all, they are fantastic pictures of the birds below. I'll show them to my husband later.
You also have a great photo of the poppies - one of my favourite flowers. They've mostly all gone from here now. There's a wonderful display of them by Bamburgh Castle on sand dunes but I've heard recently that English Heritage will be getting them all away? Not sure what that's all about.
I saw a beautiful Heron on Monday evening stood like a statue by a pond near Hoppen Kiln (near my place). I had to look twice.

Enjoying your pictures. The poppies brought back memories of our lovely holiday spent in Northumberland this year. Where we stayed at Boulmer and enjoyed watching the wildlife - fantastic. Could not take our eyes away from the beach - beats tele. Looked for you in the evenings when we walked our dogs to say hello.

Hello,
My parents are heading over to your area for a holiday soon and I've let them know about your great blog :-)
Regarding the Red-necked Footmans - I've only noticed them in the past few years but apparently there is a strong outpost in SW Scotland.
All the best,
Fraser
Hello all, thanks for the comments.
CJ -I saw my first ever Wood Sandpiper and Black tailed Godwit at Hoppen Kiln pool before they drained the marsh over 20 years ago...
Enid - Sorry I missed you. I spend more time chatting to holiday makers than I do locals! Next time send me a comment and I'll be on the look out for you.
FS - If your parents see a chap who is 'looking well' ( about 2 stone overweight) with a manic terrier trying to birdwatch, that'll be me. Get them to come over for a chat!
you put those in with photoshop didn't you? go on, admit it!
all it needs is a woman in 19th century dress up to her waist in the middle of the field...
A woman, with a dress up to her waist,.....mmmmm....
C'mon own up.
That's a photo off a biscuit tin.
