It got away....

3.15pm we returned home from shopping. I was unloading the car when a call from the shrubs along our drive stopped me dead. GREENISH! That double syllable call like a Chiffy with laryngytis meets a Tree Sparrow and Pied Wag combo is nigh on unmistakeable. In a panic I dashed for bins and camera returning to see the constantly calling phyllosc up on the phone wires, in silhouette only, flycatching before making a long flight off to the south. Donning wellies I clambered the wall and skirted the back field edge to a large sycamore to no avail. The bugger had gone. The next hour was spent wandering around holding back the tears as my first proper patch rarity was no more. Not even enough to submit.

The one that got away....shite.

ou could always partially make up for it for going and nailing this one on the Mound, if you do hold it down and ring me.

Ta Lads. I have found my own Greenish on Holy Island a few years back and have seen another half dozen including 2 in the hand. One in the garden would have been soooooooo good though....
