2010 Moth List kicked off to a basic start last night. As it was mild, maybe about 5 or 6 degrees, I put my new trap on from 5pm - 10.20pm. I was pleased with my first catch...
December Moth 3
Chestnut Moth 1

Great! you must have quite a good area, local woodland? my Garden struggles when there's not much on the wing as i'm a few miles away from any mass of trees.
Stewart - even the greatest of lists start off in a modest way. I'll be following your moth year with special interest.
Nice one Stewart.
Very mild here today. Got my 80W actinic out tonight - fully expect to find empty egg trays in the morning.
There's been a few December Moths recorded in the UK this January (per UK Moths Yahoo group) - not unprecedented but typically they are well over by mid-December and maybe even earlier up your way.
The prolonged cold spell could make for an interesting season this year.
Pale Brindled Beauty next, Stewart.
Will we see a Butterfly list, for the local area around your new house this year Stewart ?
Ta for the info lads.
BB - Some good parkland / arboretum with semi natural woods only a couple of hundred metres away...plus very little light pollution.
Steve - I'll take a great interest in what you chaps catch further south, no doubt with a green envious look...
Mark - Thats interesting. I just thought they would roll over into the new year? On our local moths site it shows them ending in December right enough...
Dean - I hope so. I get them off the Spar shop a couple of miles away...
Warren - Yes I'll be logging that too...it wont be too long though...
Ah Stewart, I haven't used my new Robinson yet, did think about it the other night but the wind got up - don't want it blowing away. So the moth list for 2010 stands at 0. It's cold and rainy tonight so .... I'm thinking the weekend may be a possibility. December Moth, I'd like to see that and I too thought they might be available in January - the weekend.
