Training...

Out and about with JWR today taking a few pics with the new camera. It might be a steep learning curve to get the hang of the settings etc, but I am inspired by the likes of Gary Woodburn and Warren Baker's excellent shots on their blogs so I am expecting to improve sooner or later ( probably much later).

Today, there wasn't much close enough to 'bag' other than these nice Goldfinches on a large patch of teasel. I also bumped into a flock of 30+ Bramblings on a roadside but they lifted up into the tree tops against the light before I could get anywhere near...

Other birds of note today were 10+ Goosander on Branton Pits ( unlike the drake at Morpeth, chips will not get them any closer).

  1. ystIWith your artist's eye for composition, you are already pretty far along. Very pleasing photos.

  2. Hi Simon, I still have your site linked on mine, I saw it today and thought I'd pop in to say hello! Glad you're still posting! I miss Northumberland so much, haven't been able to come back over for two years now :-(
I'm working on illustrating children's stories and poems I wrote and learning feltmaking.
I wish you many birds in the new year! Keep in touch.

  4. Had 6 Goosander here today Stewart, should I take some chips out with me tomorrow ? :-)

PS: keep some of your first efforts at bird photography, then in six months time compare them to what you are achieving at that time, you'll be surprised by the results :-)

dont forget to experiment with the exposure compensation :-)
