No birding this weekend for me. It went something like this...

Above - Horrid fireplace, circa 1984, in situ ....

Above - Horrid fireplace yesterday in the hands of our friend, Derek...

Nice. You should see it today! No camera, too dusty....

Still, Sparrowhawk and Buzzard added to my new garden list. Is that allowed when I don't even live there yet?

  1. Well - that's not something you see every day - a smashing fireplace.

I'm sure you can count the Sphawk and Buzzard - in your "my garden to be" list!

  2. I've got this image of Jayne coming back and saying 'The fireplace not the whole bloody wall.'

  3. That looks like great fun. We had one of those fireplaces at my parents' house in the mid 80s. Only worse - the stone had been varnished.

  4. I've been there, done that, great therapy.

Best fun I've had in years - braying all traces of the 70s from the last house.

Pine cladding, brick fireplace complete with plinths for videos and telly, knocking out archways, dismembering saloon style kitchen doors......what exactly were we thinking them days :)

  8. Many thanks for all the support all - a few answers here - it was varnished, a nice matt sealant. The whole wall is now looking well, down to the original 200+ year old sandstone. Its not therapy, I'm knackered. No its not fun, its expensive. And as for stress, I woke at 4am this morning thinking 'oh my god what have I done!' heart pounding at twice the speed.
    Must take deep breaths....

  9. I think I lie down in a darkened room for a wee while might be in order Stewart. I'm sure you're glad it's over now though.
